The librarian who lost their appendix

There once was a librarian. They were addressed by a library user For a research request. Nothing out of the ordinary, the librarian said.
So what are you seeking or searching? Just keep talking and I’ll speak a magic word Into our database with plenty of books And magazines and all the you-haven’t-seens. The user whispers, oh it ain’t anything big. Just looking for an appendix For the book back in shelf twenty-nine, At the bottom, with the green cover, red lines. You know? Oh I do, the passionate librarian claimed, I know every book as if it was mine. But an appendix…
The results page was blank. So were other catalogues.
And neither the archivist could offer a hint
Nor could the librarian find the appendix within.
Defeated, shameful, just out of luck,
A frown from the user, all shoulders shrug.
Who needs an appendix anyway?
And as a librarian that’s their right to say.
